Rick van der Linden was a Dutch musician and composer, born in Groningen, Netherlands on February 5, 1946. He is best known as the keyboardist for the progressive rock band Ekseption, which he founded in 1967. The band combined classical music with rock, creating a unique sound and earning them great success in Europe and beyond. Van der Linden was known for his virtuosic and innovative keyboard playing, using a variety of instruments including piano, Hammond organ, and synthesizer. He also composed many original pieces for Ekseption, and his arrangements of classical works were a key part of the band's repertoire. In addition to his work with Ekseption, van der Linden released many solo albums and collaborated with other musicians. He passed away on January 22, 2006, at the age of 59.
